Elim
This historic Moravian village was
founded in 1824 by German missionaries on what was then the
Vogelstruyskraal farm. Not only the oldest village in the Strandveld,
Elim boasts many other unique features;
* the entire village is a National Heritage Site
* they have the oldest dried flower industry in South Africa
* Elim's got some of the rarest fynbos in the world
* it has the only slave monument in South Africa
* the Old Mill has the largest wooden waterwheel in South Africa
* the Church has the oldest working clock in South Africa
* and lots more
L'Agulhas
This is the Southernmost town in Africa! It is here where the Indian
and Atlantic Oceans meet, the place of Needles as many a mariner
referred this area along this treacherous coastline, the last resting
place to many a ship and known as the Graveyard of Ships. The
Lighthouse is the second oldest in the country and on misty evenings
its woeful sound can be heard for kilometres.
Napier
Founded in 1838 and named after
Sir George Napier, the governor of the Cape at that time,the village of
Napier has managed to retained its charming character over the years
despite changing times. It is a haven for artists, writers and those
just wishing to escape the bustle of city life. The historic
architecture of the village is presently being restored.
Struisbaai
Well known for its 14km long, uninterrupted white beach its a popular
tourist destination and many flock to this coastal town in the summer
months while others opt to retire here.
