ECO-EXPO IN THE SOUTHERN OVERBERG

This event will take place in Bredasdorp, a town surrounded by fynbos and wheat fields situated in the heart of the Southern Overberg.

What is the OVERBERG ECO-EXPO all about?

MISSION:

The mission of the OVERBERG ECO-EXPO is to educate and enlighten individuals and businesses on the increasing number of eco-friendly products and services available.  It is to be a means to encourage people to become aware of the importance of preserving their environment for a more sustainable way of living and for a healthier planet.


The OVERBERG ECO-EXPO will be a free, two day yearly event that will showcase environmentally friendly products and services and provide information that will help people to lead healthier and more sustainable lives. The goal of the OVERBERG ECO-EXPO is to improve both the quality of our environment and the quality of our lives.  The OVERBERG ECO-EXPO will be a celebration, but one with a serious purpose: to accelerate the emergence of an economy that is sustainable, healthy and earth friendly. It will unite green businesses, social and environmental groups and numerous community members in a lively exchange of ideas, commerce, and community building.

This event is being co-ordinated by the Southern Overberg Branch (formerly the Bredasdorp/Napier Branch) of the Botanical Society of South Africa

The exhibit area will be divided into various categories:

  1. Greening Home & Garden: Services for home& garden including waterwise gardening, solar lighting, composting, natural pest control, promotion of indigenous planting etc
  2. Energy, Transportation & Recycling:  Focus on alternative energy sources,renewable energy example solar and wind power, recycled products and water saving devices and bio-fuel, ethanol and electric vehicles
  3. Conservation, Community Action and Involvement:Organizations and businesses that promote sustainable practices.
  4. Agriculture: Organically produced produce, permaculture, badger friendly honey, sustainable harvesting of e.g.fynbos and restio
  5. Food: Emphasis on eco-friendly and organic foodstuffs
  6. Education: Teaching the young all about sustainability through a kidsZone
  7. Art, Culture & Lifestyles: Eco-art,eco-fashion and eco-travel
  8. Health & Wellness: Promoting greater use of eco-friendly beauty and health products e.g. aloe products,animal free tested products & indigenous herbs etc

      

The Expo will allow visitors to:

  • See dozens of green products and services that are currently available to meet their needs. Learn about organizations helping to affect positive and sustainable change in our region, our country, and around the planet.
  • Attend educational workshops and “how-to” sessions. Networking opportunities will abound for people looking to work together for change at the local, national, and global level. Meet interesting people who share common values.
  • Listen to speakers addressing a wide array of green topics, from the benefits of composting, to how to help conserve energy in your home and workplace.
  • Stop by at the kidZone area where the whole family can have some fun learning what green is all about.
